The Los Angeles Times reported today that internationally known actor John Philip Law has succumbed to cancer. He was 70 years old.
He's perhaps best known for a series of roles in some of the more outrageous and fun films to come out of the 1960s, including BARBARELLA (as the angel Pygar), the fine spaghetti western DEATH RIDES A HORSE (opposite Lee van Cleef), and, one of my very favorite films, Mario Bava's DANGER: DIABOLIK!
There's a very nice appreciation by Bava biographer Tim Lucas over at Video WatchBlog.
I think my favorite JPL moment came while watching the supplements to the DANGER: DIABOLIK! disc, in which Law, in his late sixties and still looking great, pelted out the famous/fabulous Diabolik laugh. Joyous.
