I'm not sure I understand, mannym. I see that none of your downloads finished, that's true. What does it say in the Jaman player? Do you not have the option to resume them?
Does initiating new downloads work? Try just downloading a (free) movie trailer and see what happens. Let's find out if the problem is limited to the movies you started to download, or all downloads.
tried a new movie and even a trailer as per your suggestion but still the same. any more suggestions? thanks aorin. it says 'downloading movies' which actually does not
Hmm, Manny, I'm a little stumped. But I should mention that some internet service providers could potentially limit or try to block peer-to-peer traffic. Jaman uses peer-to-peer technology that is similar to what is used for pirate downloads, and ISPs can try to block it. And if you're sure you didn't change any other system settings, that's all I can think of. Let me know if you figure something out!
Max12, you can potentially authorize playback of a movie on 7 different computers. Transferring the movies is the tricky part. Are your computers networked so that you can share files between them?
yes aorin downloading was ok when i was using dial-up but since I changed to broadband I am in a quandry on how to continue to be able to complete the movie. Any more suggestions? thanks
manny, hopefully you got my email; unfortunately, if your internet provider is the only thing that you changed, then it seems that your provider is not allowing Jaman traffic to go through. But it's odd that you say you were using dial-up.... you downloaded a fair percentage of the movies, which would have been nearly impossible on a dial-up modem. Maybe you mean DSL?
It really took me sometime to download while I was using the dial-up, then on one occassion, I was able to connect to a wireless hotspot with high speed connection where I was able to get that fair percentage. After not being able to get that particular connection anymore, I continued using the dial up again hoping to complete it in due time until I changed to DSL (broadband). That's when the problem started. It was primarily for this reason why I had to change the connection but it seemed it did not serve its purpose...
basically, what it is doing right now is that the message says 'downloading movies' while an icon just keeps on encircling. The size of the file however (as obviously defined) remains unchanged after I wait for sometime. I suppose the downloader is not performing alright.....
OK, that makes sense. But aside from maybe trying to encrypt your internet traffic to circumvent any interference your ISP, I think that Jaman just doesn't work with your provider. If I remember correctly, you were just using your free rentals, but if you paid for your films, please contact us.
I tried once jumping back to dial-up and just recently went to a hotspot , but same thing, it didn't work. Do you think it has got something to do with the length of time downloading it? thanks tensaihoward
it says it could not see the service on my IP add on port 7150 for the reason that 'connection refused'. Can you pls. advise how to find a port that my ISP will not block? Thanks tensaihoward....
thanks for the advice, Howard! But for whatever reason that site is unable to connect to the default port, 7150, on my computer, despite the fact that Jaman works fine for me.
mannym, try just arbitrarily changing the port number in the Jaman player's settings, and see what happens.
Hey manny -- it might be hard to tell which ones are not blocked by your ISP unless you try testing a few different ones.
You can try some other numbers -- just make sure the numbers you try are less than 32767 because it doesn't look like the Jaman Player can go higher than that right now.
I would suggest you try numbers that are much higher than 7150 (for example, 13021 or 23570, etc.) because your ISP is probably blocking a large range of ports that is close to 7150 anyway.
Let us know what your results are! You might be able to help other people having the same problem!
mannym... something tells me that your download may have expired? A rental period normally starts at the time your download starts... so 7 days may have gone by since you have started the download. You can reply and tell the good folks here at jaman and they will probably refund your rental ticket
BTW, I found a better tool which lets you scan a range of ports and find out which one's open
www.auditmypc.com
Keep in mind, this and the other tool scans for port that are WIDE OPEN which means your router, hardware/software firewall isn't doing anything to block (like port 80 for http traffic)... 7150 may appear blocked but your router might have set a port triggering/forwarding rule to allow it with exception. consult your network admin for details...
If your port is wide open, there's a potential security threat! While it is convenient, the best way is to use your router to forward that port to your PC, and also set your software firewall to allow traffic from jaman if you haven't done so already
I tried changing the port numbers within the min range of 7150 to max of 7250 (as specified) to no avail...a message would just say 'error network timed out'. Howard, my downloading still continued even after length of time expired. Do you think searching and assigning an open port might compromise my system to intrusion if I do not do it correctly?. Otherwise i may just as well consult my ISP provider regarding this. thanks again
Hey mannym -- I think you may need to setup port forwarding on your router. Let us know if you need some help with that. Also, just for the record -- what ISP are you using?
Hey manny, you said you changed "the port numbers within the min range of 7150 to max of 7250" ? Actually, you can change the port on your Jaman Player to any other range and see if that works... I would try some totally random ones like 14578 to 14590 (just as an example)
howard tried your suggestion yet after several attempts message says 'network error timed out connecting to the server'
amrik, I am not using any router rather I am using an external modem provided by the local ISP which I suppose connected to their network.
Thanks for your support and assistance
