William Shatner is in the captain’s chair of a new Enterprise…and the director’s chair for the fifth Star Trek movie. The Enterprise responds to a distress call on a distant planet, and the crew finds themselves ensnared in a plot by Sybok (Laurence Luckinbill), a renegade Vulcan. Sybok takes the ship on a journey past the Great Barrier at the center of the galaxy, where Kirk, Spock, and the rest of the crew encounter a mysterious (and possibly divine) presence.
